Making Self-Care a Priority

Any time you are preparing for lift off on a plane, the flight attendant will remind you to: “Put your oxygen mask on first before helping others.” I suggest we apply this mindset to self-care. When you take the time to care for yourself, you improve your overall well-being and do everything you need to do, better.

Steps towards self-care does not have to be time consuming. Think of simple adjustments in how you live.

Here are a few ideas:

* Keep negative people out of your life.
* Deep breathing exercises and 5-minute meditations can do a world of good.
* Schedule a date night with your spouse or a friend.
* Laugh often.
* Unplug, even for one hour. Be present in the moment without the stimulation of technology.
* Make a small change in the way you eat. Add fruit or drink more water.
* Go to bed a little earlier.
* A little exercise. Park your car further away from an entrance.
* Keep a gratitude journal.
* Take a quick nap.

These are all habits which translate to a more positive outcome for YOU. Therefore, they are a worthwhile consideration.
